Most Important Value Ever Learned:
From the 1983 movie Flashdance: “You have to overcome your fears in order to achieve your goals and realize your dreams… just go for it. That’s why I started S.M.F. back in 1994, because I believe in myself, and in my abilities, and for me at least, THAT’S what me being The Heavy Metal Warrior® is REALLY all about... overcoming obstacles, and breaking down barriers, and also, showing the world that mentally disabled people like myself CAN do a LOT more that just ‘sit in a corner and just twiddle our thumbs’ if we put our minds to it. That in part, along with my three traditional HMW™ Values, which are Hard Work, Sheer Guts, and Gritty Determination, is how I became both a legend and a folk hero for the mentally ill as well as that of the disadvantaged and also the challenged. I may be mentally handicapped, but I am certainly not stupid, nor am I unwilling to learn.”

Personal:
Ray was born with a serious case of AD/HD (Attention Deficit/Hyper-activity Disorder), and also a bi-polar disorder, and he is currently living in the Victorian Seaport city of Port Townsend, Washington with his common-law wife and love of his life since 1989, Alice Yantz. He has been a Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders NFL Football fan since 1982, and a Los Angeles Kings NHL Hockey fan since 1975 (his family had season tickets from 1977-87, before they moved to Port Townsend from L.A. in 1987). Lost his mother, Joanna, to brain cancer on August 15th, 2000, graduated from the notorious Erik and Joan Erikson Center for Adolescent Advancement and High School located in Tarzana, California, on June 15th, 1984, and ironically enough, was also a former classmate of and is inspired by legendary internet bikini model and actress, Cindy Margolis, who was referred to Erikson Center by Ray’s co-moral inspiration/co-graduate, the former Tracy Berg, back in 1983.

He enjoys in-line skating, bowling in league with Alice, practicing on guitar, working on his computer, and doing maintenance on both of his VWs. Ray also has a strong, passionate hatred towards both American-brand pickup trucks and SUVs (and especially 4x4s), and all Republican politicians and their policies. During his spare time, Ray enjoys listening to 1960s-70s psychedelic, acid-trip, hippie, and classic rock from such artists as The legendary Grateful Dead (1965-73), Cream, The Doors, The Jimi Hendrix Experience (1967-69), vintage Santana (1969-71), early Deep Purple (Mark I lineup, 1968-69), Steppenwolf (1966-72), and Jefferson Airplane (1965-72), and also to Pop and Smooth Jazz artists such as Sting, Phil Collins, Earth Wind & Fire, Steely Dan, George Benson, Toto, Michael McDonald, and Sade, all part of his impressive collection of a combined-over 2000 records (LPs and 45s), tapes (cassette and 8-track), CDs, VHS tapes, and DVDs.

He also owns a huge arsenal of gear, apparel, and other accessories from brands like Case Logic, Sony, Nike, Starter, and Oakley amongst them, and also an extensive lineup of Atari 5200 video game cartridges, controllers, and accessories that he has been collecting since 1983, mostly acquired either through eBay, or on other online sites. Ray admits he is a Sony MiniDisc fanatic, he got turned on to that particular recording media format and its variations, including Net MD and Hi-MD, back in 1998 by his best friend/manager/booking agent and mentor in the music business since 1994, former frontman of now-defunct Port Hadlock-based band Circle Of Fear, Len Enders.
